Well, you would have to take the heater core out. I think you will need to take the dash board out. Pain In The A$$.
Or for a temporary fix, go to the hardware store and get a hose barb in the correct size, ( just a small, usually brass tube with ridges on it ) Cut the hose in half, right by where is is leaking, put in the barb and clamp both ends down good and tight. Viola cheap and effective fix. If the hose is all rotted and dry cracked, then it may be better to just do the whole hose, or wait till it cracks again, in a place that you can't reach, then you'll have to do it.

I'd do the quick fix til some other part of the hose starts leaking. Unless you've got nothing better to do than pull the dash to get to the heater core Its a pain in the ***. I had to pull mine and it was no fun.

It Takes About An Hour To Take Out The Dash. First Remove All Lower Panels Inc. Radio. Disconnect The Speedo Cable, It Is 2 Piece And Is Easily Seen When Foot Heat Panel Is Removed.then Disconnect All Wiring Plugs Along Right Side Of The Dash. There All Color Coded So No Labeling Is Req. Remove Heater Bezel And Diconncet Heater Controls From Crossmember, Do Not Remove Completly. Then Pop Off The 4 Covers At The Top Of The Dash In Use A Ratchet With Long Extentions And Ph. Bit To Remove. Remove Steering Wheel And Drop Steering Colum Down Using 2 Bolts At Top Of Shaft. You Will See 4 10mm Head Screws Along The Bottom. Remove Those. Dash Will Be Loose. Get Friend Remove Dash Carfully Without Breaking Corners Off. Done. Install Is Reverse Of Removal.

Hey, when removing / installing the heater core, isn't it neccessary to drain and move the freon canister in the firewall? I know that is what kept me from servicing the leaking heater core AFTER I removed the dash 2 hours earlier. My repair book told me I had to drain the r12 & then pull out the core. Is there an easier way; I still have no heat or defrosters (

No You Dont Have To. Dont Believe What It Says. The Heater Core Is In Its Own Box. From Right To Left It Goes - Fan Box, Ac Box (with Lines), Then Heater Core Box Complete With Vacuum Controled Flaps. It Comes Off The Side Of The Ac Box Seperatly. Careful When You Seperate It And That You Remember Where The Flaps Go. Best To Put It On Its Side And Remove Half The Box - The Side In Which The Heater Hose Comes Out.

There are some pretty good diagrams of that whole system in your factory service manual (You got it as a freebie from XenonZ31 Reference) so check out Section HA in the FSM. (Other great docs on that site, too. Check 'em out.)
While you're back there inside the dash, take the time to disconnect every harness connector you can reach, clean it and reconnect. You will thank yourself later on. Also, clean and lubricate the damper doors if you get that far. They get lazy and slower over time as your vacuum pump grows weaker - and it will. DEFINITELY replace any vacuum lines you see back there. They are probably original, cracked and leaking.
Great to see you doing the job right, lacz!
