HELP! MAJOR something problem!

So my oil gauge has always been fine, ever since i got my car it would run fine and when i would come to a sudden stop my gauge would read that i would lose my pressure but then come back on after my the momentum stopped. Now last night i was driving on the fwy at about 2500 rpm (60 mph) and my oil pressure gauge reads nothing... then half way (50 psi?)...then nothing...then halfway...before i know it my water temperature reads 250!!! I'm RIGHT on the verge of the 270 mark!! Then the oil pressure gauge read normal and it eventually cooled down, but I obviously dont want to drive the car when it could posible melt down!!!

Well check your oil level, check to make sure you've got coolant in the radiator, and as long as those seem to be fine, I'd say faulty sending units, as most of these gauges are generally not too accurate anymore, since they're so old.

Yeah what duowing said. Check your fluids, and if your Z, seems like it is not overheating or making noise. Like low oil pressure, or the temp is reading ridiculously high you either have faulty sensors, or the gauges are not working like they should. Because of age. Amazingly, my gauges, still work pretty good. Even though they are original. Of course I made sure all my gauges were working decently. When I was putting this Z back together.

I always check my fluids, and watch my gauges, as a religion. Or listen for anything out of the ordinary. And investigate if need be. So basically.... Anytime you see a gauge reading crazy or high. Stop and investigate just to make sure. Better safe than sorry, and good luck. Hope things turn out well for you.

The same thing happend to my car thursday. Coldist day yet this year and my thermostat frezzes shut. On these old engines I've noticed that they lose oil pressure when they over heat. My thermo released and now it's froze open. So my car runs just above the first line. My oil pressure has returned to normal. And the new thermo goes in tonight. She did the same thing last year on the coldist day we had.
