How to get the tranny out
Hey I am really close to getting the transmission out of my '82. But I need insight on this mount type of thing, that mounts into the floor of the car. Possibly the rear cargo area? And it has a boot on it, anyway any help on this would be great. Also I am not sure about the driveshaft. Will the tranny just come off of it? Or is it mounted somehow, that I need to unbolt it, and such. This is the first time, I am doing something like this. This is all I need I am sure to take out the tranny, and clean it up. And mount it to the motor outside the car.
So any help would be greatly appreciated. I will look at my FSM, and see what it says. But since you guys, encouraged me to remove the tranny. I need all the help I can get, to get it out. And I am afraid, that it takes more than 10-15 minutes to remove it. I have already spent an hour and a half already on it.

Remove the shifter arm.
Unbolt the rear mount at the two points on the frame of the car. (for best results keep out from under the tranny when you do this, and have it supported)
That is all. The driveshaft splines will slide right out, and if you have not drained the fluid yet, the oil will drain right out the tail end of the tranny at that point.

So that is the shifter arm? Okay duh, I didn't think of that. And you are saying that it is mounted to the frame of the car? Or are you talking about the supports, I have already removed?

I have no idea what the thing with a boot around it is, unless you are talking about the shifter. I assume you know what the shifter looks like.
Here is the crossmember. You unbolt it at each side. One large bolt on each side. You can also unbolt the center bolt up inside the circle in the middle of the crossmember. If you do that, then lift and push the tranny forward. this can sometimes be difficult.
Here you can see the single bolt going down from the mount. this is why you have to lift the transmission if you only unbolt the center bolt. I suggest just unbolting the whole rear mount crossmember from the car.
Another view of the crossmember. note in this pic the driveshaft was already out. It was unbolted from the diff first.
ya, that's a T5 not a Nissan transmission but the mounts are identical.

Okay thanks, and yeah I already unbolted the rear crossmember. Now the other question is, do I have to take the shift ****, and boots off, to take the tranny out? I am still a little confused. Anyway I need to go to work now. Thanks for the help, and keep it coming.

Okay guys, I got it out woohoo! Now I am cleaning the 24 years of muck off it. It is a aluminum color. Basically, it has never been painted. So I am going to clean it up, and install it on my engine. I do not see why I can't have him running this weekend. I took 5 days off from both of my jobs. And don't have to work until Monday. I needed to clear my head, and such. Also because of a death in the family.

Sorry to hear about the death in your family. I have had to stop work on my Z for a few day's, One of my ranger's is out. I replaced the crank sensor, and put 4 new plug's and plug wire's in, and not it won't even start, I love a Ford, but like any car or truck, they can be one hell of a headache some time's.

Thanks man I really appreciate it. On another note, the tranny is mounted back into the engine. Man what a pain in the ****. I noticed the clutch plate was not lined up with the pilot bearing. So I had loosen, and adjust, going by eye. And I got it, as close as I could, and it payed off. So now, I am debating, if I want to put the motor in tonight. Or wait until daybreak tomorrow. Hmm, we'll see on that one.

Ha ha yeah I am close though. Anyway I just about have the motor and tranny in. It is a pain by yourself, so I am done for the night. And will tackle it tomorrow morning. With another person's help. I should say by Saturday I should be running. Could be sooner, but we will see on that. Will keep you posted as always.
