I am brand new with a question
I just bought this 1981 japanese datsun 280zx and I don't know if it is turbo or not. It has a gauge on it that says boost but do all 280zx's say that? I was just wondering if someone could tell me how to figure this out. I know nothing about cars and I would like to learn thanks in advanced.
Peace.
Peace.

if it has a boost guage yes should be turbo
go outside the car and look on the right side (drivers side) under the exhaust manifold and see if theres a turbo...(you know what a turbo looks like i assume)

RoadPizza, the valve cover should have "Turbo" written on the top of it if its a turbo.
You can also confirm whether it's a turbo by your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), that is, if the engine hasn't been swapped or modified.
A VIN beginning with "JN1C", the "C" would indicate that the car was manufactured with a VG30DET engine (turbo). If it begins with "JN1H", the "H" represents non-turbo.

If the car is driveable and not too rotted, easiest way to check for a turbo if you don't know what it looks like is to floor it and see if the boost gauge goes positive (past the 0 mark) or if you hear a whistling sound much like one of those rigs, just not as loud.
