i think my car has a swapped motor?
well, here's the situation. my hood has that cold air triangle, thus the TURBO hood, my CV boots are for the turbo rearend - i ordered some new 1s & the part No.s for the NA cv boots i bought were too small+the turbo model are bigger & has this metal bracket on it which do fit. is there anything else that gives away that it was a turbo model when brand new?
the motor in it now is NA w/ F54 block & P79 head, but it also has 190k miles. so i'm thinking an owner in the past blew the motor, was cheap about it & bought an NA motor instead. what other signs can i look for? haven't checked the VIN for comparison, is there a database i can look into?

Are there any turbo emblems say on the center console? Umm, the gauges, there would be a boost gauge where the ammeter would be. I think n/a's are a R180 rearend, but don't quote me on that. If it was an a/t turbo it would have 3.54 gears in the back. The rims if original would have been the swastika style rims, the front grill is different from turbos and n/a's. If it was an a/t turbo there is an oil cooler on the front passenger side of the car behind a series of slits. Umm, that's about all I can think of for now.

Ditto what Life said, plus: The N/A should still have been an R200 rearend w/ 3.90 for manual trans and autos had R180s w/ 3.54 ratio. The turbo style hood was adopted for all 1982 & 83 ZXs. Don't forget the plate on the drivers door or under console armrest that shows tire size...15s were turbo and 14s were NA. The 4th letter of the VIN should be an H for NA and C for Turbo. I got the VIN description straight out of my Victoria British catalog and other info out of my various Z books. That should answer a few questions. Maybe someone just swapped in the turbo rearend and CVs.

turbo stock tire size?
Not that it makes a difference now that I bought new rims, but my '83 turbo had 15" swasticas. The fronts had 205/65-15's and the rears had 205/70-15's. The label on my door is faded and I'm done trying to search for the original size. The best I could come up with were 205/60-15's on a set on ebay. Is this the right size?

The 205/60s are the original size for your Turbo. Check out Tirerack.com
They've got a load of tires that size. Good luck.
