Idiot Lights

Idiot Lights
My Z has developed another small problem. Fixed one problem now I get another. When I stop at a light or anything, the idiot lights come on, just the brake, door, and the one right below the brake, can't remember what it is. Also my volts start dropping. But when I start driving the lights go off, and my volts jump back up. This happens usually after I first start the car, and first start driving. After a little while it stops. There is no change in revs and the motor don't sound like it choking or any different than usual. My car idles between 750 and 1000. Any idea's, this just started happening. When I first start my car, I always let it sit for a minute or so, then I drive off. I have not done anything different than I usually do, but, then I only got the car about a month or so. So I have no idea what the past owners have done or not done. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank You

Your idiot lights come on if the engine dies or is just about to... or something like that. I think your voltage output from the alternator is dropping to nothing at idle untill it warms up a bit. Swap alternators with another Z and see if that fixes it. Or maybe just replace the brushes in the alt.

Found out what the problem was, it was my temporary fix that was the problem. My car did not come with a battery hold down strap, so my battery would occasionally fall off. So while I was busy making a battery box I decided to move my battery back in the storage things behind the seats.
So to lengethen the wires I took old jumper cables and took the ends off and ran them back there. And just black tapped wires to the other to smaller wire.
But, tonight when I got my box done and moved it back up front, no more problem. But, atleast I got my battery box done. It took so long (2 weeks)because I had to wait for a friend to weld my box. I never could get the hang of welding aluminum. Almost anything else is not a problem, just aluminum takes a lot of skill that I guess I don't posses. But anyway, I got my box and it looks great. It will match my valve cover perfectly once it gets a few miles on it. Right now it is all shiny and new and my valve cover is dull silvery color.
So I learned my lesson, when a problem occurs instead of trying to find a problem, check what you did first. Thank you to those who offered suggestions.
