just a few simple questions...

hi guys, well first of i have a 81, 280zx n/a

the past few times i go to start it, it has alot of trouble on the initial fire up. it sputters alot before waking up, and the last time it couldnt start until i put it on a charger and cranked the engine really fast. ( battery is fine by the way) im thinking it could possibly be a weak fuel pump??...not sure tho.

and secondly, i was just wondering what the average costs of doing a turbo swap might be, as in going from non turbo to turbo....its sorta my long term goal, as i plan to keep my car that i have for a looonnng time. i am well aware that this isnt a engine u cant just slap a turbo on and go, im just a little foggy as to how much total work it might be, and the average costs.

any help is appreciated!!! thanks!

An engine needs 3 things to start:
-proper air
-proper fuel
-proper spark

Does it have proper fuel delivery? Fuel pressure? All injectors spraying?
Does it have proper spark? Timing? All cylinders have spark?

It's pretty hard to tell you a cost for a turbo swap... too many variables that are up to you to decide.
-Cost of L28ET: free... to $??? ... depends on how much you can score it for.
From there it depends on what you want to do to it... modifications, additions, changes... bla bla bla...

Here is a link talking about turbo conversions. As I am doing this myself. When I am ready to start restoring my '82 280zx n/a. Anyway, there are a lot of things to read and research from that thread. Also as NismoPick said. Depends on how much you can get the engine, and or parts for. And then what you want to do with it. For the final result. Good luck.

cold start injector might not be firing, or your timing is off.
does the car idle fine after it finally starts?
does it hessitate?
...a turbo engine will run you 300-450 at a junk yard ex intake exhaust, and wiring.
