L28ET ARP Head Studs & MLS Head Gaskets
#30
Well kids... I got some good news & bad news.
Good news: I got the head back from the machine shop.
Bad news: They broke the #1 manifold stud off (I didn't notice till I got home). So I'll be drilling that out tomorrow.
More bad news: I think the MLS headgaskets have (or at least mine has) a defect. It's missing a coolant passage between cyl 2 & 3 on the manifold side (left side) of the head. This means that the coolant between those two cylinders has no where to go and is probably just cooking (perhaps the reason my freaking car won't stay cool). I have a new gasket kit for my next turbo project, and the stock headgasket has a hole in the right spot. So now I gotta drill that out too.
I'm pissed!!!

hey it could be your electric fan as well pick. i have a flex a lite 16" straight blade. i found out its 1400 cfm. well thats just not enough, so on ebay i bought a dual 12" fan #220 for 200 bux. it produces 2500 cfm!! cooling problem solved for me. ive never checked those cooling ports. the coolant would just flow in the block along to the next hole wouldnt it?

Anyway, I got the head gasket drilled, the manifold stud out, and the head is back on... STUDDED! Yeah! I really like ARP head studs... makes installing the head so much easier. Just need to hook everything back up, and change the oil / fill the coolant. Maybe have it running by Wednesday.

Indeed... I'll get some video going over the summer.
Not likely w/ gas being $4.50/gal. That's worse than a punch in the gut.
Now ya tell me! I shoulda gone electric from the beginning! .... I call a "DO OVER!"
