L28ET Intercooler

Hey guys! I recently bought a 280ZX, I love the thing but im wondering something. Its a 1983 with a turbo, but does it have a intercooler? It sounds kinda noobish but im trying to learn as much about the car as I can. Thanks in advance.

No there isnt one. I was just wondering because the car has the aux fan that turns off after the car turns off. Stays on for like 20 mins and blows air onto engine. I found a stillen intercooler for 1300, but short on cash. I was curious because I didnt know if the turbo can die on me cause it doesnt have proper cooling.

The aux fan just cools the injectors / intake manifold, and the turbo won't "die" on you w/o an intercooler... or all stock 280zxt's would already be at the junk yard. The intercooler itself has very little effect on the turbocharger... much more effect on the air going into the engine / performance.

For the love of everything... please DO NOT SPEND $1300 ON AN INTERCOOLER! I refer you to my previous posting on making your own IC setup:

what will kill your turbo is if the oil cooks inside of the turbo. If you are racing around, and the turbo is spooling pretty hard, and you stop and shut the car off suddenly after racing it, then the oil will cook inside of the turbo. To protect against this, anytime you do hard driving, make sure to let the car idle for a minute or more to ensure the turbo has properly cooled off.

yeah intercooler does nothing to help prolong turbo life...

just do your regular oil changes, and like the dude above said if you drive hard...let it idle a while in your parking lot..maybe get a turbo timer so you can leave the car..or even just a few blocks before your house drive like a granny to let the oil cool off....and yeah for 500 bucks you can build your own setup...just dont get a huge *** intercooler for your stock turbo as its not neccesary....i bought an intercooler for 300 bucks and if piping cost me another 300 i think thats decent....

Thanks for the response guys. Yea I figured it wouldnt die on me or anything like that but I was just curious. I have a couple of more questions that I hope you guys can answer. 1st is if the car is equiped with an LSD and if so what type, 1 way 2 way, etc. 2nd question is involving the air intake. I was wondering if there was any company that sold an air intake that was well suited for the car. Sorry if the questions are kinda "noobish" but I'm trying to find out as much as possible about the car. Thanks in advance.

PS- Ive been using NismoSigma for about 5 years now! NismoZigma is my variation! I didnt mean to "steal" yours, but than again I didnt know you owned it! lol

no harm done... original names don't last forever.

280zxt's did not come w/ LSDs. You must buy an aftermarker Quaife or Nissan LSD, or get one from an 87 - 89 Z31T. Be prepared to spend a lot for LSD. Also, if your 280zxt is all stock, or mostly stock, it's really not worth it.

Is that your Z in your sig?

I hope you're talking about the intake he's looking for . Cause an LSD is makes a huge differenc in corner exiting, especially with the turbo car. However if you MUST have the intake, K&N makes a good one. Though I think it's just a waste of money. Probably get about the same result by just dropping in a K&N filter into the stock airbox.

Yea I have the stock airbox and recently bought a STP air filter for it, the previous won was sorta dirty. I also bought Bosch wires and some Denso spark plugs. Im not planning on doing any track running with it or anything like that, I just want a very nice daily driver. The car has 114,9xx miles, it runs great, has NO body rust, only part that is rusted is the battery section, but thats normal cause I have seen alot of people who have that too. Thanks for your posts and helping me out. I hope to won day be helping out other people as you have me!

PS- The car in the pic is from GT4, im an avid GT4 player and it was taken in game. The car is actually a 81 280Z! If you want pics of my car, just pm me and ill email you them!

GT4 is the ish Those endurance races are kicking my a$$ though
That's pretty low miles for a Z. Not REALLY low but most of the ZX's I've seen are pushing over 200k.

MY Bspec driver is a frickin" RETARD. Can't stay on the track and even when I set my aggression to full and pass he still takes like a half a lap to pass anybody in front of him (thats if he ends up passing before he hits the dirt). I've given a Bspec driver a full lap lead before only to come back and see that he's dropped a position or two. I just recently noticed the little Bspec stat screen that says driver skill. Maybe I sould get that up I did 24hr Nurburgring in all Aspec. Took me few days to get through that one.

Trust me it's not the car. I win races with my cars racking up to triple digit points in the Aspec mode. I think the problem is that I never onced used the Bspec mode until I got to the endurance races. I fiddled around with it a couple time before but I realized if I swap back and forth from Bspec to Aspec I don't get points for Aspec. I don't know what the points are for but I've got a thing for getting em. Right now I'm trying to get the rest of the "black" cars from the used car areas. Those damn things are expensive and you gotta wait like 700 days in between them appearing.

My B-Spec driver isnt all that either. Im like 80% done with the game and my bspec guy only has 6800 points. It does ok in races, but there can always be ways to improve. My aspec points are 13000 though. check out the official GT4 forums on the Playstation website and check out all the things going on in there. Also check www.gtvault.com

Thanks for the link. One of those GT4 forums is where I found out to look for the black cars. I was half way through my first year before I realized there were those low mile used cars. It's been a while since I've seen a one I don't have. I was hoping there was version for every used car, but I guess not. I think my completion % is somewhere in the mid 90's. I finally opened up FFX so I havent played GT4 for about a week and a half. Hey those endurance races were killing my thumbs I need to get one of those steering wheels
