Motor Mounts

I beleive that hedman made a set of motor mounts for the V8 swap into the 280zx but for the life of me I cannot find a part number, does anyone happen to know what it is?

Here is a site for all the things you will ever need for a V8 swap... http://jagsthatrun.com/

Yeah there mounts are much better than the ones from MSA. Not quality wise but because of where they place the engine and the fact that you have some leeway as to where you want the engine. The MSA kit is a straight drop in deal. If you don't have any fabricating abilities then the JTR mounts are NOT for you. Just to let you guys know. But they are who I'm using for the LS1 swap Probably their radiator too. Not too sure on that one yet. Plus I'm doing the T56 trans. None of that automatic crap.

Yeah I have a 400hp 355 for in it and plan on putting a t5 in it, but I work for a parts store and carry hedman, and I thought I saw somewhere that they made a set of mounts to do the swap so... Anyone know what needs done as far as the clutch is concerned can you reuse your stock master cylinder or need a new one.

Have you checked out www.hybridz.org yet? They have any and all information on this swap. If there is a Hedman engine mount for this swap then they'll probably know about it. I read on there about someone using an F150 mastercylinder for the clutch but that was for a T56. Since the Turbo came with a T5 I'd imagine you could use the stock CMC but would most likely see increased pedal pressure depending on the clutch. I know Tilton carries a CMC that you can use but I don't know the part number. If you check em out they should be able to point you in the right direction. Have you tried contacting Hedman direct? They should be able to give you the part number or atleast tell you if the part exists or not. Good luck. And when you get that beast in there lets see some pics. Not too many V8 fans on this site but I like em

I know there aern't a lot of v8 fans on here but after having sunk 5g into my L28 and not being satisfied I think its time for the displacment to go up a little. The only thing is I love the handling of my Z and don't want the bigger motor to affect it, but the aluminum heads and intake should keep the weight gain to a min. Traction is the only thing I am worrried about no having. Another freind in the area has a Banks crate motor. Its pushing over 1100hp in to the crank. He was gonna sell it to me for 5grand which is less then half what he paiod for it. but without building a tube car and putting 280 body panels on it I couldn't figure out how to keep it in one peice. So.... would have been bad *** though.

If you do the swap correctly, a V8 can actually give you better weight distribution. I think an all aluminum V8 is also about the same or lighter than the cast iron L28 too.

It's lighter and it sits further back... Both good things. In fact, the only negative I can think of to doing the V8 swap is the "Blatant Bastardization" factor. I've said it once, I'll say it again... "If I wanted a chevy, I'd have bought a chevy"

Rod.

Yeah the LS1 is all aluminum and is everything Rod just mentioned (yes even the blatant bastardization part But hey that aint gonna stop me ). The only part where you'll gain weight is in the tranny if you go with the T56 (6spd). But even then, the extra weight will be low and near the middle of the car (dejah vu ). Traction will probably be a serious issue indeed. Gonna want an LSD and some sticky tires. Wider wouldn't hurt things either. Then you've got to consider tossing the stock diff for something stronger anyways. I understand the 300zx had a stronger rear end but I don't know whats involved in that swap. And of course the custom driveshaft. The list goes on. Do your research and talk to people who've done it before. Man if feels like I just gave this advice to someone. Oh wait I did. Maybe I should've just pointed you that way. Oh well I already typed it all
