bad grounds
bad ALT or volt reg in alt
not enuf grounds
just plan bad harness and wireing
something is over powering the system AND ECU
OLD CARS....I have had quite a few old cars going all the way back to 1960 impala.. everything before 77 SUCKS..pontiac's are even worse the list of most GM cars..THEY just fall apart in the electrial system wise.. to date I have owned aroud 55 car (I'm only 38)out of the GM one's I have had to replace or go in to great detail and repair in the wireing dept.
ITS JUST a fact old car bad wireing go hand in hand
AND THAT SUCKs BIGTIME
later

Why do you think the ECU is the culprit? Are you sure you didn't short the circuit during the install? I think rgus30's ideas were a little more likely then the ECU itself burning out a high amp fusible link (we're talking a lot of current to blow a link. These things are up in the 50+ amp rating range).

Also, If you blew the ACC link, it most likely wasnt your ECU since I'm pretty sure the ECU doesnt even turn on unless the key is in the IGN. position.

bad idea. If you were blowing the stock gauge then a higher gauge just puts other components, like the ECU, at more risk to damage. The links are rated the way they are for a reason. It's the same reason you dont put a 20a fuse where a 5 amp belongs: protection. Find out why you blew the link in the first place and correct that problem. Dont bandaide it with a higher rated fuse link.
