Offset or center inlet for muffler?

Offset or center inlet for muffler?
I will be getting 3" piping for my '82 Turbo and need a muffler. I'm planning on a Borla muffler (flattened ovalish body), but I need to know whether I should get a centered, or an offset inlet. I am wondering if the thicker 3" piping would need to be routed differently around the rear suspension, and thus require a different coupling point to the muffler (hence, the centered vs. offset question).

I think your best bet would be to have an offset inlet, with the inlet closer to the center of the car. That would shorten the distance the exhaust has to go to reach the muffler. Though, if you're looking for a straight-through muffler, I'd assume they all have the center-in and center-out design.
While I was taking measurements and pulling stuff off my Zed [my exhaust goes under my diff and suspension, though], it did look as though there was more than plenty for my 2.5", so I'd assume your 3" should fit no problems.
My question for you, though, would be this:
how are you going to mount your muffler? It is an oval, like you said, but is it narrow enough [width-wise] to fit the way you want it to next to the gas tank and fender? Just a little something to think about.
