Oil Cap on Valve Cover

Oil Cap on Valve Cover
Ok, on my best friends 1980 2+2 we noticed that while the engine is runing, if we remove the oil cap on the valve cover the engine will shut off. It did this everytime we took it off, we did it more than once to see if it was just a one time thing. Well when I got my 1982 coupe and got it to run correctly I decided to see if mine did the same thing...it did exactly the same thing. Why is this? I have seen these engines with oil breathers on them, why do those stay running?

Not all cars do it, but when it happens its because you're creating a vacuum leak. It doesn't mean anything is wrong with your car. There are some phooey theories about it meaning something is wrong, but they're false.

lol Actually we changed the oil in my friends 80 2+2 and went to put the last half a quart in the car because we did not put any in the filter when we put it on...we just wanted to make sure we put all the oil in the car, it just happend to be running when we wanted to put the rest in.

I drove my jeep about 25 miles with no oil cap one time. I was going to work and about 75% of the way there my lifters got reall loud. I was like damn it I know I didn't run out of oil that fast so I was thinking my oil pump was slowly going out, so I drove all the way to work poped the hood and the hood was coverd in oil the block was saped in oil the manifold was smoking its a wunder the thing didn't catch fire. the cap had blown off do to high preasure the pvc was not working. now my new rear main seal is screwd again. thats an inline 6 cylender 4.0 for you by AMC jeep.
