Performance Camshaft

I was hoping to get some advise on camshafts here. For n/a and turbo aplications. Such as what is a good duration timing and how much overlap for the turbo applications. And if there is any manufactures that make a good performance setup.

Feel free to search as this topic has been discussed before.

For the turbo motor: the stock cam is best until you get into the 400hp+ area. And you don't want much overlap for turbocharged setups.

For the n/a: it all depends on what driving conditions the car will be in & where you want the power band. The mild cams are for lower rpm ranges. The hot cams are for higher.

Here's a link to the stock Datsun Z cam specs: http://www.geocities.com/bruskiz/ZCamSpecs.htm

Honestly man...if your Z runs great right now. I wouldn't screw with it. And I think...that you start upgrading cams. When you start building up the engine more. Like upgrading the ignition, and other little things. I mean these cars..have good power just in stock form. It will be scary...when I turbo mine..lol Anyway good luck to you bro'. Whatever you decide..

Oh and my 3000th post...Woo Hooo!!!!

Hey apreciate the advise. I turbo charge a Honda in high school and it helped out but once I switched cams it really set the car off. Now I have a spare garret air research t3 and would like to put it on my z after doing some head work and would like to start with a good can. From what it sounds like I should just use a can off a turbo model.

These aren't Honduh rice rockets. There's also a thread answering all your "I wanna turbo my car" questions: https://www.zdriver.com/forums/240z-280zxt-s30-s130-tech-tips-275/turbo-swap-ticking-people-off-since-2003-a-19638/

I may try to get a Group Buy together for A Regrind for the L series.

Let me know if you are interested.
