Putting a gm alternator in?

I just put a gm alternator in my 1982 280zx, because the stock one wasn't putting out any. We put the new one and hooked a wire from the alternator the battery, and today the alternator didn't put out any, so i was wondering if anyone knows if there is something else i had to do to it or if you know what might be wrong?

Why did you choose a GM alternator instead of a reman ZX alternator? I can't imagine that the output would be that much more significant with the GM. You probably don't need more than a 50-60 amp alternator; unless you have a monster stereo. Save yourself a headache and take it back and get a Nissan alternator.

How much wattage? I'm runnining 500 watts. 8 speakers and a 10" sub on the factory alternator. No problems. I think you may have a wiring problem instead of an alternator problem.
