Quick Oil Pan Question.

While I'm still trying to get my damn exhaust manifold out of my car(haven't touched it in a day or so) I found what looks to be like I have a slight oil leak. From what I can tell, I'm going to look at it better, but it looks like my leak is around the rear of the oil pan. As that part is oily and nothing else appears to be. Anyway, how much trouble is it to drop the oil pan and replace the gasket? Can you slide the oil pan out, or do you have to remove stuff in order to get it out?

hey.. funny thing is i did my seal last week. no you do not have to remove anything except for the oil pan.. im not saying this will be easy to replace the seal this way but it can be done, i did it this way. once you drop the pan you wont have much clearance to or room to work with. be careful not to get any dirt into the pan. you will have to manuver the seal under the sump in the middle of the pan with your finger tips NOT EASY. once you get the seal back in place make sure all the holes line up. The 1st time i tried this i had the seal fliped on the wrong side. had the wider edge of the aft part of the seal on the right side and not the left.. so just pay attention and take your time. put a few of the bolts back into a few of the holes just to hold the seal in place and then work your way around until finished.

Cool, thanks for the info. After reading the Haynes guide I kinda figured I'd have to do something like this. Otherwise it looked like one of the biggest pains I'd ever go through. Did you scrape/clean up the gasket area on the pan or the block, or do you not really need to?

To be frank I did this a few months, back, and it still leaks, unless the leak is bad I would not jack with it. It's a pain, it was such a pain I had a shop do it for about $80.00 after I had spent hours getting to it, theres a ton of tiny little oil pan screws, easy to loose, don't for get those braces on the side of the pan. So on and so forth.

Honestly unless its completely nessessary don't mess with it IMO.

Man if I could have a shop do it for $80 that wouldn't be too bad.
