radiator upgrade
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...spagename=WDVW
I removed the AC system today and discovered that the lower front portion of my radiator has just about disintagrated. So no better time than now to upgrade.
I saw this on ebay, but im not familiar with the manufacturer. Any suggestions? This a good deal?
edit- i just found the Jags that Run aluminum radiator kit, s/cL3.0 how'd it work for you?

I saw that same radiator on Ebay and was thinking about it too. I just don't like the sound of their disclaimer about fitment and lack of brackets. Doesn't exactly make me feel like it's for the 280ZX anymore when they do that.
I heard with the JTR radiator, you might need to shift the location of the AFM a bit, due to where the inlet of the radiator is located, but that could just be for the turbo model.

Sumitt racing has some good prices on aluminum radiators. They are 'universal' meaning the have mounting points but they don't match up with any car. You either make some small brackets or just re-drill mounting holes in your car. Summit's prices were about $180-220. I think that guy might be buying those radiators and reselling them on eBay for 260+

It is awsome it runs extremly cool and efficient.. I would reccomend the electric fan they sell to.. I had to drill new holes for my MSA elec fan.. I will post pics later of it installed... You honestly do not need anything either everything comed in the kit.. Took me an hour..

How many people here run clutch fans and how many people run static fans?? I run a static fan myself. Don't know if it makes a diff or not, as it came with the car, but I have changed the fan since then.
Just interested...

Yeah I got an electric fan before. Didn't like it, I got it because of cooling problems in my '81. And then I found out that I needed the fan shroud, plus my fan bolts were stripped. So I got a new fan with bolts. And it worked great. Plus it helps to get a lifetime brass thermostat for it. I paid $10 or so for it. No more problems. Of course the shroud was a PITA to find. I got lucky 2 years ago. And found one on e-bay!

Where do you live apollo? I think that is the most important thing. I have read here that going to electric on these engines frees up around 5 rwhp. If you live in, say Pheonix and want to go electric, I would make sure and get a pusher and a puller, possibly a new radiator to go along with it. Thats just what I think.

Electric is more efficient and puts less strain on the engine. As far as freeing up horsepower, probably not enough to where you'd even notice. The belt driven fan just free wheel when you're cruising along anyways. If you get one large enough to span your entire radiator and make sure it's got a shroud, you should get very good cooling. Make sure your rad. is up to snuff too. Without the shroud, when you're just sitting at a stop, the fan will draw air from behind the rad. instead of in front of it which defeats the pupose of the fan in the first place. And make sure you get a therm. switch so your fan isn't on all the time, which puts strain on your alternator.
And it don't get as hot in Oaktown like it does in AZ. So you aren't going to need a pusher as well. Another benefit is if you get a slim design fan, you'll free up a little room in you engine bay. The biggest problem with electric fans is people not getting a fan that spans the radiator, which decreases efficency. Hope this helps you in your decision. I prefer electric.

Dude, if you're going to upgrade to an aluminum radiator, get the one from Mike Knell at JTR in Livermore.
That's the one I put in my 3.1 Turbo for $290. I have an electric fan from Summit and it almost never comes on.

Anyway, at least with this one, there's absolutely no question it'll fit with only minor relocation of the AFM.
