Hi everyone, I got me a '80 280zx and the PO put on a twin loop honda muffler on it that is hideous. I'm goin to get a custom 2.5 exhaust done locally for about $180. My question is would a resonator provide a deep exhaust note without a cat or muffler? I know I won't gain much performance, mainly just for sound. I saw a vibrant performance "ultra quiet resonator" and would that alone on 2.5 piping produce a deep sound? Thanks for any input

 

Why would you not use a quality muffler like Magnaflow or Flowmaster?

 

It was either that or a round magnaflow muffler, would just the muffler produce a deep sound without the cat?

 

Well the L28E isn't a V8... so if you want a V8 sound, buy a V8.

There are hundreds of 240Z - 280ZX exhaust clips on youtube... have you searched there? Lots of people have posted about their exhaust setups on youtube, and on our site (search).

 

I'm going with the magnaflow route most likely, going with a cat delete and 2.5 piping. The msa headers are out of my budget, I'm in college so money is tight.

 

I like the Walker UltraFlo for the ZX. Magnaflow and Flow master are a little too "domestic" sounding...
