side exit

Hey, I was wondering if anyone has ever tried to install side exhaust on a '81 280zx.
I'm assuming it would have to be custom but can it be done and how would that effect my performance?

I was thinking about trying the same thing. If it can be done I bet it would look awesome.

sorry old topic.. lol haven't been around for awhile. i think it would look awesome if the exhaust stayed tucked all the way till the back, till just before the rear wheels. Hate to use it as an example, but like a ford lightning (first thing to come to mind, saw one today...)

but i duno how you'd dodge the frame.. unless you just started from the outside but hid the pipe w/ a body kit or sumthin then cut out a port..
it'd be pretty cool..

...maybe go down the middle and then have it curve to the sides once its already in the rear. It'll be more of a 90 deg bend and maybe even come forward slightly. Just make sure the end tip is angled right

If I have second thoughts about my future exhaust upgrade (Apex'i N1 canister, 2.75 in all the way out), I'll probably do what professional race teams do to their cars - cut out and raise the floor where the exhaust will go. That'll dodge the frame ...

Not to be a smart *** but, our cars dont have frames to get in the way of an exhaust like that.
