Side seals
82 280zxt engine, I am in the process of rebuilding the engine. Putting the crank and main bearings in today, I was able to get the rear main cap after a mighty struggle with it. I hope the other caps are easier, anyway are the side seals suppose to be even with the block? The book I am going by says to trim them 1/16 of an inch below the bottom of the block.
The side seals, I have will not need any trimming if I push them in all the way. It seems if you let them project 1/16 of an inch below the block, they will get crushed by the oil pan. Or is that what you want?

I ended buying the kit in the link above, the seals in the original rebuild kit I bought fit very loosely. The felpro kit had the expanders, and the seals fit much more snug. I trimmed the ends of the seals flush with the block, that is the best picture I can give you since the oil pan was installed yesterday.
