still having engine trouble

i have decided my engine problem was due to a bad computer and i have found a remanufactured one for a decent price, the problem is something had to happen for the cumputer to blow in the first place right? i mean the car was running one day and not the next, so i was wondering if something did short out and i replace the ecu will the new one blow out to?

Well, how exactly did you find out that the problem was with the computer?

If it does blow out again, you might just try to repalce the fuel injection wiring harness. That is just the section that connects to the injectors, a few sensors on the intake manifold, and the ECU.

my owners manual says that if the ecu is working a green light on the back of the ecu will light up and blink every 5 sec. my green light does not come on at all exept when you first turn the key on it will flash on for a split second. anyway
all the problems with motor are things the ecu controls and i got a ecu out of a junkyard but the part #'s did not match, but i put it in anyway and it made a difference in the sound of the motor, besides that i have changed out or checked
just about every thing on the motor, if it isn't the ecu i don't know what it is.
the car was running good one day then my grandfather backed it up on some ramps(you know those orange metal ramps about a foot high) to replace a bad axle. the next moning the car would not crank at all, that was 3 months ago, still not running.anyway where can i find a wiring harness like you were taking about?

You'll need the wiring harness from a turbo 280ZX. That will be a bit harder to find than a non-turbo. maybe Skully can sell you one later when he switches to MegaSquirt.
Ive got an available harness for a non-turbo 1983 car.

Most ECU damage is caused by voltage spikes (from whatever reason). The most common cause=Jump starting. Other causes are bad diodes and crossed wiring. By some freak incident, a voltage spike through the grounding system can fry an ECU, but that's not very common at all. Maybe it was just time for your ECU to travel to that happy little spot in the sky .
