Tranny go bye bye...
Well, got my new wheel and tires on the car, put my new clutch in... I had a gnarly noise coming from the tranny before replacing the clutch, I thought/hoped it was the throw out bearing. The noise didn't go away.
so today we replaced the slave cylinder (unrelated but needed to get done anyway) and re-adjusted the pedal. I took it out on the road and the tranny decided that today was a good day to die.
Starting off from a stop in first gear I heard a loud bang followed immediatly by the car jumping out of gear and then the once gnarly noise turning into a horrific noise.
MSA is 8 days away and now I need a transmission... Sweet.
Rod.

Oh man, if you didn't live so far; I bought an '82 ZX (2+2) for parts only; the car has a standard tranny that I won't be needing since mine is auto. Car runs and had a problem with the clutch (I had to pump clutch to switch gears) but I was able to hit all gears.

^ Actually, it's more like 30 minutes with a lift... i just need to FIND a tranny that I can swap in there. I'm going to Ecology in the morning and see what I can dig up. I was just there yesterday, if I had known then what I know now... oh well. It's just one more speed bump in my plans for beautification before the show. Looks like my car will be going pretty mush "as is" asthetically speaking.

Man that suck Rod, hope you find another one. I thought there was a fellow zdriver on here. That offered me a couple of 5-speed trannys. It was posted in my tranny won't go in any gear thread. Anyway I guess it is my turn to say "Keep the faith, just another obstacle to overcome" As much as you have kept on me in the past. You should have enough for your setbacks you come across. I have faith, that some nice fellow, will help you out. And will have a spare good working tranny for you. I wish you the best of luck bro', and God bless.

Well here is the thread that the guys offered me a couple of trannys. His name was 383Zjuiced. Maybe you can contact him, hopefully he isn't too far from you.

Edit, yeah he is in Ft Lauderdale Florida, a little far from where you are in Cali. Probably wouldn't be worth the shipping cost. Well I tried anyway, sorry for lifting your spirits up. But I am sure you will get one soon.

Come on guys, if he's got the time then he'll find another tranny. There are like 2 Ecologies within an hour of him and a few pick-a-parts just north of him too. I've yet to venture into any of the self service yards in southern Cali and not find a Z with an intact transmission. So it's just a matter of Rod finding the time to get out there and get one before MSA.

Well, no luck so far. Out of all the ZX's at the yard, all but two were automatics and the two that were 5 speeds were unusable.
Now that the weekend is over, I'm going to make some phone calls this morning and see what I can round up.

Well, there's a transmission shop that we deal with a lot that is very good. I called them and told them what was up with my tranny and they're going to hook me up with a sweet deal on rebuilding my current tranny.
So, I have to cut my exhaust in half again (after having to have it re-welded the other day because we had to cut it to get the trans out already.) , drop the tranny and take it over to them and drop it off. It should take a couple days for them to get it all apart, fixed and back together. Then I'll put it back in and have my exhaust FLANGED this time so it won't be a problem in the future.
If all goes according to plan, it will be redy to roll to the show, but it may look a little ugly when it gets there.

I tried to look for a good Rob Schneider pic to say "You can do it", as in Happy Gilmore, etc., but couldn't, sadly. Anyways, Rod, you CAN do it by MSA. You 'da Man.

I'll definately see you next year!!!
