im doing an 82 ecu swap, it seems to plug right in. ill try and report later. i already have the p79 and a o2 port, so the swap is a little easier. ive have bad injectors right out of the box, although if you have the dropping resistor, try replacing that.

the problem lies in your.... wiring harness! ...and ECU... so replace that then everything will be replaced.

Dude now it is my turn to say. "Don't make me come up there, and bitch slap you." LOL You can't give up on your Z, I wont let you, like you wouldn't let me.

And my Z still runs rich, and I can't figure it out. So I am going to say the AFM is not working correctly. Even though the car runs pretty good after warmup. I am still getting bogging and hesitation, through certain speeds and rpm's. Well it wont matter though, because I am getting a motor for the '83 probably soon.

Almost half of the money I have spent on this mother****er has gone to make it pass smog and now, when its due to be tested again, it ****s me just like always. I am totally ****ing over it! I can't keep it running right, I can't keep it looking nice... **** it. So now, number 6 is firing and number 3 isn't... WTF. I don't care anymore. this car ****ing hates me and I'm starting to hate it back. Anybody want it?

So just for s***s and giggles I thought I would burn some more money for no good reason and swap out the cap and rotor (thinking the random cylinder misfire might be related)... The old ones only had about 1000 miles at most on them.

Guess how much difference it made! ?

None.

So, I spent money on new injectors just for the hell of it thinking it would be a nice upgrade and it's now biting me in the ***. It ran much better BEFORE the new injectors, the new AFM certainly didn't help either. So in the last week, I've spent about 550 bucks only to have my car run worse than before. AWESOME!

I think it's time for an 82-83 ecu harness upgrade... or L28ET. You could ebay all your new n/a parts for almost as much as you paid.

I still don't understand what an 82-83 wiring harness "upgrade" would accomplish... Aside from forcing me to add an o2 sensor to a car that never had one in the first place.

Wanna explain?

well, it will replace your harness. Maybe the sensors aren't the problem. The wires could be bad and when you replaced some parts you moved the wires just a little and they have breaks in them.
I have an '83 harness. No ECU though. I'll give you a really good deal on it if you want. Maybe you buy me lunch last year and I'll give it to you...

Thanks Bleach.

I'm trying to be calm about this. It's jyust really frustrating me right now and I quit smoking (Cold Turkey) 8 days ago so I'm cranky and irritable.

I'm going to have a guy look at it on Monday who has a Nissan/Datsun specialty shop and see what he thinks. You may be right. You probably are...

True.

So true.

But I already quit, and I and I ain't gonna re-start just because my car decided to be a bitch.

Absolutely totally agree, about the smoking thing. You will regret restarting, I quit cold turkey December 23rd 2005. And still smoke free to this day. And I will guranttee you I will never start again. I smoked 10 years, and now I can't stand to smell it, weird. And honestly having cars make you start smoking, to me is just stupid. No offense to anybody though. It is all in your head, I learned that in the end. Just substitute it for something else. I also found that after quitting, my hands pretty much don't shake anymore. I think it was the nicotine in my system. It would be a pain in the **** sometimes, to do simple things on an engine and such.

All aside, I think Bleach is onto something here. You could have a problem in your wiring. It does make sense to me. But let us know the results, after you take your Z in to your friend. Good luck to you man, and congrats on quitting smoking. You will be happy with the choice. Anyway keep us updated bro'.

haha... its just the stress of working on cars and basically... dropping the tranny 3 times on this full race CRX we had. stupid crap went wrong 2 times... and stress got to us. so my chain smokin friend who i was helpin work on it and me very light smoker... mixed them all together and we ended up smokin 3 packs that night... its a psycological need brought upon by the stress... so yes it is all in your head... but i wouldnt restart... i wasnt recommending that... just that its crazy to stop right when the car is goin crazy on you lol.

You might as well change the intake/exhaust gasket too. Mine was uber bad and sealing that bitch up seemed to help, but I need a new afm and harness too. Mine hasn't run in like a month. I broke the windshield and there's rust under it and now im saving money to do it right, instead of just buying stuff ***** nilly like i usually do. Add some more ground wires, it makes me feel better when I do it to my cars.

I hate the stock L-jetronic system. I would ditch the whole thing and switch to megasquirt and be done with it. But, if you must retain the stock setup the irregular idle could be caused by an air leak somewhere or possibly a bad ground.

here's a L-jetronic troubleshooting page
http://www.forparts.com/techbosLjetronic.htm#Rough

and everything you would want to know about L-jetronic
