you CAN ask more than one tech question per thread (aka post).
That way we can stay in one place. Thanks!!!

That fan comes on only AFTER you shut off your car, and ONLY if the temp has been above about 200 degrees at any time durning that run.

You actually could put a filter on it and route it to the T/B and call it that S/C thing "SUPER CAHRGE ANY CAR!!!"

Does that really help the engine at all? I mean...it seems kinda strange to me...i know all engines get hotter once you shut them off, but thats just heatsink, is it so bad in these motors that they need a fan to try to cool it off?

Those electric water pumps are pretty bloody sick! Bloody expensive too, but worth it. I know MSA only sells one level pump, but you can get different blades to flow lower / higher rates.

What's the wiring for an electric water pump like? Is it just constantly on whenever the key is in the Engine On position? Or does it sense when the engine's actually running (like my Crane ignition)? And how's the longevity vs. a standard water pump?

Yeah Mine is on when the ignition is on, as far as life goes... I will let you know when it burns out.. Oh and Bleach my dad had a complete beltless engine on his old nova.. {hes an electrician for the Navy} But they actually do make self perpetual/caharging altenator {I think thats what he called it} Now that was a lot of money

You can wire it up however ya want... usually just wire up a relay, so it comes on w/ ignition. That way you can have it flowing w/o the engine being on. Longevity... if you wire it correctly, should last as long as the car.

You lose one belt off the crank, so maybe .5HP gain Thats kinda why he did it just to see how muof a gain there would be of losing the belt {cause everyone always does lighter pullrys and removes the A/C} he 12HP on a mustang Dyno eliminating all belt altenator, power steering, waterpump and A/C.. Not a big gain, for the almost 2k spent doing it..

The fan is just there to prevent vapor from forming in the fuel lines after the car has been shut off. With fuel being stagnant and being heated by the motor after it's been shut off there is the possiblity that you could end up with vapor lock. This CAN be a problem on carbureted vehicles. As far as why Nissan put them on a fuel injected vehicle. Beats me. The high pressures in the Fuel lines of the FI tend to combat vapor. That fan was the first thing to go in my engine compartment to get rid of some of the clutter. It's my opinion that these cars DO NOT need these fans. Maybe it's the difference in gas now days, I don't know, but it's not likely a FI car is going to experience vapor lock.

Oh and one of the benefits of an electric water pump is you can wire it and your electric fan up to a switch or timer so that they run for a short time after the car has been shut off to keep temps. down. I've shut my car off and watched the temp gauge fly almost to full swing from the coolant not circulating after shutdown. If you use a timer or thermostatic switch(same one for your fan) it becomes a set it and forget it setup for convenience.

Did anyone tell the original poster that the fan was to cool the injectors and not the valves?
