wrong transmission fluid
what is the difference in manual and automatic transmission fluid? i put a new manual transmission in my car and i put transmission fluid for an automatic. will there be any problems or do i need to change it as soon as possible.

I would change it A.S.A.P.! I was trying to search the web for a good explination, no luck yet. In an auto trans, the fluid is running through channels to shift between gears. I would think this fliud has to be more viscous to accomplish that. I would also worry about additives specific to each transmission to permit proper function. Bottom line, I would change it right away!

Yes, I can see why you might have made that mistake. There is no "Manual Transmission Fluid" in the stores. It is just called gear oil.
I have heard of one manual that was specifically made for automatic transmission fluid and that is the borg Warner T5 found in the 280ZX Turbo. Also, be sure to use automatic transmission fluid in your 280zx power steering. It was specifically made for that type of fluid.
Automatic transmission fluid is much more thin than gear oil. It won't offer the same protection that your old Nissan 5-speed needs.
