1981 280ZX Sensor Light
Hi All,
I'm new to this, so forgive me if I break any rules by this post
btw Nice to meet you all
My Problem:
I purchased a 1981 280ZX, 4 months ago for $1025.00 and I'm trying to restore it for daily use, it has not been licensed or registered in 17 years,
and sat for probably the last 9 years.
I bought it in California and towed to AZ so it has some rust issues but nothing major. The engine runs strong there is only 68,000 miles on it.
One of the Issues I'm facing is getting it to pass emissions.
The 02 sensor light on the dash stays on even though I recently replaced the 02 sensor, any ideas.
It is the GL coupe and has the L28E engine, it appears to be all original equipment, in short, no Mod of any kind.
Any Help in fixing this problem would be greatly appreciated
as well as any recommendation of any trusted Repair Shops that know or specialize in Z in the Phoenix Area would be helpful.
Thanks

On the passenger side kick plate, by the fuse box there is a little connector with a green light. Remove the kick plate and unplug it. The sensor light will go out. This is exactly what the dealerships would do, so don't worry about unplugging something you shouldn't.

Thanks duckyz,
but any ideas on what may be causing the problem,
and would there be a problem disengaging the Sensor light at Emissions.
will that effect any other electrical systems

As far as I know, that sensor light comes on at about 35k miles. Then after that you are supposed to unplug it. It tells you to change the o2 sensor for the first time since new. After that, you don't need it anymore. That goes for an n/a. I would imagine it would be the same for the turbo. Hope that helps.

Thanks WildmaN, duckyz, I appreciate you replies.
Right now its about 112 degrees in side the Z (i don't have a Garage) but as soon as it cools down I'll take care of that Thanks Again,

Pretty damn hot here in the southern states, can't imagine what it's like in AZ, but then again most of AZ is dry heat, we have humidity here in OK
And my garage is full of Z parts, so I can't park my FC in there, so it stays in the sun =(
I need shelves

And if people at the smog place, are failing you because of your sensor light. They are retards, and don't know anything about our Z's.

The live action really gets me into a mechanic mood, same with the anime.
Without a garage, it is kind of tough, especially in the winter, I had the Z in the garage taking up all the space to redo my carpet, and it was still pretty cold in there.
