1982 280zxt. Acceleration problems over 4500 rpm
For some reason lately my car doesn't want to pull past 4500 rpm without any fuss. It feels like it is straining to pull hard. I was thinking fuel or air but I checked both and they seem o.k.. It seems to be intermittant so I thought electrical. Someone told me it may be the distributor or coil. Please give me some help on this.

True, I would guess that the injectors got clogged. You know how some carb's needles go bad from fuel drying in them for long periods of time? Well, the same can happen with old injectors. They can loose their efficency, especially at idle. You may now need to run cleaner in them or replace them. Your air over the cylinder might only be the intake/exhaust gasket as opposed to your head gasket. (if you're lucky)
Replace all the tune-up stuff and run some cleaner in your gas tank. Maybe open up the throttle position sensor and use some electrical contact cleaner on it. Then drive the car easy for a while and see if it gets better. Don't forget the fuel pressure regulator and oxygen sensor go bad with time too. Those are fairly cheap and easy to replace.
