1982 L28E Firing order and Diagram!!

Hey people, I am new here but thought I would help out some people if I could. I have a 1982 280zx non turbo coupe with an auto tranny. The car is stock with 93,000 miles and in good shape. I traded my '92 RS Camaro for this car at a lot straight up because I know what these motors can do and I like these cars alot. Well the car ran like complete crap from the day I test drove it, but I made sure all the fluids were good and checked for leaks everywhere I could think of...no leaks. I was pretty sure I could make it run right myself by working on it. I did and here is how.

The injector at the front of the block was leaking so I replaced it, while replacing that injector I noticed the #2 injector electrical connection was off!! I reconnected it and no change. I then checked all the others for the same problem. #2 and #3 were as it seemed not working so I replaced those injectors, still no change. I saw that the spark plugs were changed so I thought maybe improperly gapped plugs or maybe cracked cap or bad cap and rotor. All good, so onto the spark plug wires. I looks for wiring diagrams but could not find one just firing orders for this car, 1-5-3-6-2-4. I called my good friend in Ga. and he walked me through how his wires are hooked up. As it turns out #2 and #3 were backwards, fixed it and now the engine is dead still at idle and runs hard at wide open throttle! Here is the diagram I made, it is clear and "FOOL" proof. http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c1...ring-order.jpg

I hope enough people will pass this on to those like myself who don't have the money or means sometimes to get the proper literature to fix their cars...Glad to help and Z cars are kick A@$!!

Right on bro-ski. The firing order is also found in the Haynes & Chilton manuals... but it's always good to have your own reference.

Super old post, but thanks for the diagram. I know the firing order, but have been having alot of trouble figuring out where to start the rotation on the dizzy. Since its an '83 turbo motor in a '78 280z It's not exactly located where it should be from the factory lol

I don't know how it would change, even if you put the dizzy on a different motor....
