Aside from really rare sets of wheels like Simmons Racing wheels at 16x10, the widest set you can readily buy right now are Rota RB-R 17x9.5 with -19mm offset.

The 280ZX's deep fenders do very well at covering those wheels without flares.
You're probably going to want 8.5" wide on the front and put the 9 or 9.5" on the back.

.... I was thinking 8.5 x 245/40/17 on the front and 9.5 x 275/35/17 on the rear with the Rota RB-R on the S130 - is anyone else running that combo?

you won't likely find anything wider than 8" for a 16" diameter

A 280ZX fits some wide wheels easily and you can run zero offset or close to it.

16x8 +0 in front with room to spare, and 16x9 in back.

if you want to push the limits you can run 16x8.5 in front and 16x10 in back...
your tire choices will be limited. 225/45/16 in front, 245/45/16 in back is probably your best bet. They will be stretched with 8.5 and 10 inch wide wheels if you can even find any wheels that size.

if you want 16's that are wide, and deep, prepare to fork out the big ones, or spend a long *** time searching for the right used wheels...

I think 9.5" wide up front with -19ET would be just right for someone who doesn't want alot of stretch and doesn't want a super aggressive fitment.
