280z Purchase
Someone has offered a trade of my Scout. I learned how to drive a standard in a 240z in a field. So this brings me back to those days when I was 13 and driving illegaly (fun stuff)
Anywho, I just wanted some tips and see if this things worth it. I don't have pics and I am sure you guys get these questions all the time. I am pretty mechanically inclined so a little tinkering isn't a bad thing to me.
Some info
1981 nissan 280Z
black leather interior has one tear in passenger but otherwise good
speedometer really didn't work well at 40 it read about 15
5 speed I6 that was rebuilt (hope so its got 170k)
I guess the cam was upgraded, some upgrades on the intake and a new cat exhaust has a leak so its a tad on the loud side
rust visible around the passenger windshield wiper but otherwise good body
paint didn't look real good but may buff and shine
Should it be scraping over speed bumps?
(I am trading a Scout with 35s forgot about bottoming out awhile ago)
One thing that seemed wierd was how much it squatted before it took off. Shocks or springs maybe?
Anywho, I don't have alot of money to put into it but it seems to drive fine and we are swapping for my $1600 equivalent trail rig.
Thanks for any help

I would say it suffers from the usual "bad rear struts" thing I think most people go through when buying one of these cars. I would check things like "what's been kept up". Do they have any paperwork on repairs, etc..
170k isn't that bad. Mine has about 260k, and runs like a champ, greatly do to the good people on this site!! Parts for restoration can be gotten cheap if you look in the right places. There is a thread somewhere here on what to look for when buying a 280zx.
Do you or can you get and post some pics?? That would greatly help...
Good luck
Carl
