280Z windshield
has anyone here ever had there windshield replaced? I am trying to get mine done. At first the glass company, whom I have used many times in the past, said $144. When I arrived on Friday to have it done, they said "we will have to get some reveal molding clips before we can start. Call you Monday". They called today and said that I also needed the trim to be replaced, so new trim and clips were going to be an extra $110.
What the hell????? I have done this sort of thing in high school about 20+ years ago, but it was after the time this car was produced. We would just pop the trim off with the little tool, cut the window out, re-urethane it, stick the window back in and snap the molding back on. Now I can see how the clips might need to be replaced, but I can see the flippin trim and it looks great.

Ok, this may be a little long but in the case that anyone else here is trying this i must post the results. It is still taken apart so no pics yet, but here is what happened.
Me and a painter buddy of mine pulled the window out and let me tell you, I don't know how that window was staying in place. You could push gently from the inside and see a crack in the seal all the way around. We pushed it out in one peice by hand with very little effort.
There were a couple of rust spots and a couple of rust holes about the size of a match stick. We cleaned up the channel and fixed/treated the rust and holes. Since some of the rust had bubbled the paint on the roof around the trim we decided to paint the whole top. So that meant we needed to make sure the T-Tops didn't have rust.
Well turns out they did. So after removing the weather stripping we treated and fixed the rust placed around the t-top channel. Then we primed and painted everything. Now the top looks WAY better than the rest of the car. But that's another project for another day. Anyway, while we were doing all of this prep work, my buddy found a freind of his that could replace the windshield for $130 (labor and materials). Well I had checked everywhere for the clip retainer strips and clips but found them to be a little pricey. So the guy that was going to do it told me to just get the clips and he would make it work.
Well he came last night and now it is complete. It looks like it rolled off the show room floor....at least on the top :-). So now I can drive it in the rain and stay dry. Well after I replace the weatherstipping for the t-tops anyway. Which BTW, HOLY CRAP those things are expensive.
