Re: 280zx
Really. I was shown a picture of a 280Z with that engine in it. The 280zx has a slightly wider engine bay. Have you seen the engine bay of a 280zx? You can fit anything in there! I wouldn't be surprised if you could fit a Dodge 8.0 V10 in there!
But, can you figure out how to wire up all the computer controls and turbos? That's the hard part.

Yes it will fit. Is it easy? NO.
Does it take lots of hand fabricated parts to install? YES.
Is there any kits to help with the install? NO
Is there any documentation on this swap? NO (not that I have heard of anyways) I have one of the few VG30ET swaps in a 1st gen Z car, and have done a ton of research on the net..there is next to no info, and only a few pic of completed cars.
If you have $10K plus to spend you can get it done. Maybe a bit less if you do most of the work. Custom made parts are big time expensive.

Re: 280zx
If you're after the 300hp thing, you can get the L28 turbo engine up there. Its much easier because the engine itself bolts right onto the existing transmission and engine mounts. But if you just like the handling of having a V6 set back further against the firewall or you already know the VG30DETT inside and out, then go ahead and do the swap.
Or if you're after 600hp or something like that, then maybe a DOHC twin turbo engine is a better idea.

Re: 280zx
There is a guy with a 280Z with this swap in his car.
He was at the Zcar nationals and I believe ran in the
10's . Someone told me that they asked him if he would
do it again , and he said no way he would spend that
kind of money on a VG30DETT swap into a Z. eck V8's
swap in pretty easy
