280zx wheels thread

I am sure the information has been posted before. But I want to know how many wheel options I have for my '82 280zx. I am looking into new wheels and tires. (my tires are getting old) And I want to go 15", but will go as high as 16". So feel free to share what you find, or know. And thanks in advance.

Also, this thread could be useful in the future too. Not just for me, for anybody that wants an aftermarket wheel with the 4 lug. Which is where I want to stay at. I don't want to convert or use spacers. I want wheels that will bolt right up to my car. I know my options would be smaller. But that is okay.

You could do this
http://www.modern-motorsports.com/ca...products_id=11

And MSA sells quite a few different wheels as well

why only a max of 8 wide?

you can get Sportmaxx/XXR 002/513 wheels for dirt cheap in 15x8 or 16x8 0 offset, and now you can even get them in 15x9 0 offset, and they look awesome I must say lol (although I won't rock knockoffs unless I'm beating the **** out of them drifting lol)

or if you're feeling real special you can go to Diamond Racing Wheels' website and order any size/width/offset wheel you want for less than $100 a wheel.

My brother went with Rota RB-Rs in 17x8.5 F & 17x9 R on his ZX. He's running a 275 on the rear & autocrosses it fairly regularly. I don't have any pics of his car right now, as he's currently deployed to Afghanistan.

Possibly, I may sell you the other set on my T-top. When I get new wheels and tires. Because I will put my current ones that are on my slicktop. Back on my T-top. Besides all that, it would cost a butt ton in shipping. lol

I'm just throwing that out there, guy. It's nice to be able to get a tire wider than a 245 & speed rated better than VR...Traction isn't overrated.

What tires sizes will work on 15 x 8's?

Okay I have been shopping around for wheels. And I going to go with 15 x 8's. I am looking for a wide tire, not too wide though. And a low height, and not too high. I am still thinking about going with 205 60r 15's. Would those look good on there, and not have any lip sticking out? Or should I go with a different tire size? What would you suggest? I would like the tire to stick out just a tad, not too much.

All in all, I want a nice wide stance. But more old school look to it. I am looking into the Sportmax 15 x 8's. Hope that helps. Appreciate your input.

if yot do a search on the bolt pattern youll find listings for wheels on all types of cars. Old mustangs, hondas. Original wheels.com or some other result has listings with offset info. Fwd cars dont use wheels with a good offset for the z. You want 0 or low offset. Your stock wheels are -10mm. Look at zparts.com hes got some pics. And whats up with the taillights i wanted to buy a long time ago? Im growing old here.

Okay I went to tire rack, and this is what I found in that size. 225/50-15. Would they be wider than the size I mentioned earlier? (205/60-15?) And stick out just a tad on the 8" wheels? Anyway I am thinking about the Yokohama ones. Because of the tread and such.

Thanks man, I will check it out. And sorry about the taillights. I will try and find you a box, or make one. I have a crazy schedule, and finding time to do things is difficult. Sit tight man, I haven't forgot about you. I will try harder, sorry for the delay.

yes, 205 is 205mm wide, 225 is 225mm wide, so about an inch wider overall

however, 225/50 is going to be slightly shorter than the 205/60 (which I think looks better imo, I'm running 205/50-15 and it still looks okay and doesn't mess with my speedo much at all)

if you wanna keep the same height as the 205/60-15, then go for a 225/55-15

Okay, so if the 225/50-15 would be a shorter height. That is what I am looking for. That is why I liked the 205's, because they were shorter in height than the 215's. Thanks for the input, appreciate it.

Oh, what width are your wheels? 10"? That is what I am guessing.

my front wheels are 8" wide (with 205/50-15 tires) and the rears are indeed 10" wide with 205/50-15 tires.

keep in mind I have one inch spacers on the front of my car to make it moar flush, and the rear has like two inches of useable space on the inside so I coulda gone with more offset (and not needed as much stretch), but I wanted to be all hellamadtyteflush haha

I got some used wheels

As it states...I have some wheels now. I bought them used. I still am not sure what brand they are. But they are 15" x 8" in size. So as soon as I get my Z aligned. I am going to get some new tires, and mount the wheels. If you are wondering what they look like. Look at born's for sale thread. They were the ones on the '79 280zx. I am sure they are either Eagle's, Enkei's, or American Racing wheels. I am going to try and research and find out what they are.

Anyway, I am still unsure what size tires I want. Currently there are 205-60-15's on the wheels right now. And they look pretty sweet. But if I can get a little bit wider than that. That would be cool. So tell me your input on this. And thanks.

I'd say if I want to mount them on a ZX then I will go with 215-60-15.

215/60 is going to be even more of a monster-truck sized tire.

measure the backspace of the wheel ASAP, as they'll probably rub on the strut tube.

looks like you actually bought them from him, okay.

do a test-fit on your car when you have a chance, and see how much clearance you have between the wheel and the strut tube, and also the tire and the strut tube. That right there should let you know if you can run a wider tire or not (without spacers anways)

if you can run a wider tire, I'd go with a 225/50-15
