79 280zx Injector Problems

Hey guys, just recently invested in a 79 280zx project and ran into a snag with the fuel injectors. The car has good spark and plenty of fuel pressure but the injectors just won't pulse. I unplugged them and put a test light on all of them and every wire on both sides of the plugs show to be hot. Shouldn't one side be a grounded wire? Both sides show a + charge.

Actually the ECU grounds the injectors to fire. so they technically always have 6v (Dropping resistors drop the voltage) to one side of the injector. Theres tons of things to check but I;d start with testing your wires from the ECU to the injectors then check the EFI relays to make sure their working properly. if those 2 pass then you need to check your ECU.

Well i began testing the wires and now theres 3 different relays that keep buzzing at different intervals and the brand new coil i just installed burnt up and the injectors aren't getting any power now. WHAT THE HELL!!! lol. Would the ECU be causing all of this, or is there some major shorts in the harness? Everytime i fix something on this car that is electrical something else electrical burns out. I have had a starter, coil, fuel pump and 2 different relays go out on this car.

The ECU could be fried but I'd also check all your fuses and fuseable links as well. Then check for shorts and makes sure all your grounds are clean.

Remember your Z is over 30 years old lol
