82 280ZX climate control

I have just replaced the dash in my car and discovered something I am not sure what it is for.

The manual says it is an aspirator, but I don't know exactly what it does. It had been removed from the original dash, but the replacement had one. I left it in place, but it sounds as if there is a fan inside of it and it is making some noise.

What does this thing do, and can I fix it so it won't make noise?

Pics?

What page of the manual?

From the little detail you provided, I can only assume you mean the fan on the top underside of the dash, by the glovebox?

Yes it is the fan under the top of the dash next to the glove box.

The page I found it on was HA-60.

Any ideas what it is for?

Scans of FSM, Section HA, pages 57 & 60:

So what exactly does the aspirator have to do with the in car sensor, and will the in car sensor work without the aspirator?

It's called an "ASPIRATOR FAN" in the FSM.

It's a fan... it sucks in air from the dash to hit the In Car Temp Sensor, so the auto a/c knows the current ambient air and can auto adjust accordingly. If you disconnect it, obviously it won't work correctly.
