82' 280ZX-T 167K I may be buying...2 tone...

No interior pics but the seats are mint, dash has like 3-4 cracks and the trunk carpet is faded in spots but i'd give the interior an 8/10

Pass 1/4 panel has 1 dent on body line but the dent removal guys at my work should be able to hadle it easily.

Honestly have never seen a 2 tone Z...is this a hard color combo to come by?

If I get the loan ($2300 after taxes) and it passes smog (has exhaust leak) Im pickin this beast up. Also the appraisal guy at my work testdrove it and said the oil pressure guage jumped from normal to low on and off. THe oil barely touched the stick and was black as hell so hopefully fresh oil change will fix this otherwise oil pump I suppose...this a common issue?

Said he heard valvetrain noise, doesn't occur at idle (what I observed) I can check my valvetrain clearance, and see if the rockers or cam is bad (read in the buying tips this may be an issue) Not a big deal to me unless they are hella expensive parts to come by...

Thanks for any help or comments Tim

Nice find!

Two tone isn't extremely common, but it was an option (actually all the 10th anniversary editions were two tone: black/red or black/gold). Can't rule out a custom paint job either.

As for the oil pressure, yes, an oil change will do wonders, and the oil pressure sensor is known to go faulty.

Welcome to 280zx ownership (hopefully) and as always, use the search as all the basic & semi-complicated 280zx issues have been addressed.

People trade in cars if they dont meet requirements to be sold on the lot employees can purchase 3 wholesale cars a year, b4 they go to the auction...I got declined at the other bank not enough established credit....tho last year I got 8K towards my Z32 WTF!

The pic you posted is not the correct VIN, the correct VIN, or the one that Skib posted should have "S130" in it (our chassis code :P )

Those are only pre-81 VINs that start w/ HL*S130. The feds got involved w/ regulating and standardizing VINs in 81... hence the start of "JN1".

You give up pretty easy...

So you work at Carmax? They won't give you a deal? And you can't qual for a $2k loan?

Sell something and make a down payment....

sheesh!

Dads tight on cash, my friends are broke or jobless, I have 2 credit cards maxed out and I still owe $6800 on my Z32, I'm 21, in the eyes of financial institutions I suppose $2500 is an outrageous sum of money to lend me...like I couldn't make those cheap *** payments...I was gonna sell my 240sx and my suspension and pay it off so fast

It's gone now I'm sad I wanted to cruise around with it for a month or so, then pull the engine and rebuild it fresh possibly with and intercooler upgade, injectors, higher flow fuel pump, and possibly a turbo swap. Mabye I'll come across another later when I have money...sorry to dissapoint you guys.

Seinfeld...Nice (my favorite)

I know it sucks there will be another deal tho

Mabye somone can chime in. 240z vs 280zx (turbo model ofcourse)

240z: smog exempt (I live in Cali so thats a huge plus!) lighter weight and can have, i assume, any motor placed in it's engine bay that you could into a 280zx. Also IMO is a better looking car

280zx: Better build quality (more stable under high speeds) Better suspension and steering comopnents and brakes. Much better guage design & layout (haha thats a plus to me) Also much less chance of rust (tho Cali shouldn't be too bad)

Not sure on which has better aftermarket support or which if either is cheaper to upgrade components on.

If only the extra weight could be shaved off the 280zx and me not have to smog it, the choice would be a given considering the better engineered vehicle.

If theres already a 240 vs 260 vs 280 thread please post a link!!! I;d search but I gotta handle business right now

Thanks Tim
