84 300zx

So i know the heading for this section is 280zx, but i really don't wanna hang out in the 300zx forum cuz they treat me like i'm retarded. Anyways.......... We did a little work on our 300zx today picked up an alternator and a new power steering hose. Appearantly in 84 the alternator was in the left side and in 89 it was on the right side of the engine compartment and the pulleys are way different. So....... we ran into problems there cuz we got the wrong alternator, no big deal we made it work to get the car started. We hooked up the battery and undoubtedly the alarm started going off, and we now can't get it to shut of without unplugging it. we put fresh fuel in it and hooked everything back up and turned on the key and we have no dash lights. Does anyone know why out of no where the digital dash light stop working. we have the row on the top that say sensor security door and light and stuff and the red oil pressure light, and the compass work but other than that the dash is dead. And we can't disarm the alarm... any ideas?

If it's a factory alarm, you have to disarm it by opening the drivers door with THE KEY. Very Important!!!! YOU MUST UNLOCK THE DOOR WITH THE KEY!

try that and see what happens

Ah...the good ol' '84. I had an AE awhile back. Chances are that you may have wired the alternator backwards and fried the relay for the dash lights. Just start pulling them out and smell them. You'll know which one's fried...it stinks pretty bad.

well thats a possibility we used an alternator out of an 89 and someone cut all of our wires off anyway when the car was stolen. we got it back minus a few pieces about a year ago. who honestly steals an alternator...??? we hooked the white and the brown/white that were shielded together to the plug. the black to the big bolt and the little brown one as the ground.....

Good call Duckyz I pulled the aux relay and swapped it with the head lamp washer that i dont have anyway unhooked the alternator and the dash lights came back on. but now parts of it are flashing like the battery is weak but it has a full charge.

So we got the car running normal but it won't idle down because of all the vacuum leaks. can anyone help us out with a vacuum diagram or a picture of where the vacuums hook up or anything...
