acceleration issues

acceleration issues

my 79 280zx sputters slightly and is hesitant in low rpms. im thinking cleaning the egr, but one of the bolts is in a wierd place cant get at it will have to get like a u joint socket. do you guys think this is the problem or ne thing else i should be thinking about?

basically does it all the time.... that post does not really apply to me mine idles good, and high rpms good. but sometimes sputters in low rpm in all gears

I would have to agree with the distributor or cap and rotor for the sputtering.

And I would suggest investing in a good set of those ratcheting box-end wrenches. Makes for working on things a lot easier when ratchets won't fit. I use mine all the time when I work on the Z.

how would i test the distributor to see if this is the problem. i will do my egr first and see if this problem gets any better if not ill see about distributor

Just remove the cap and rotors and visually inspect them, if you see carbon build up or corrosion on the metal parts of the cap and rotor change. If it still did not fix the problem then go for the big stuff like AFM! Oh yeah, you can also check the conditions of the spark plug wires and the plug sit self sometimes small problems can seem like huge problems...
How does that sound?

pull your cap/rotor and if you see residue or anything built up on the contact, clean/scrap it off. Also might wanna try checking out your throttle position sensor.
