Aftermarket CD Install Help?????
#4
cut off the factory plugs. Used a tester to find ignition only power and constant power.
Ran ground from the CD player to a ground wire and also to a local grounded point.
Ran new wires for all four speakers from the CD player.
Plugged in the antenna cable.

After all that...use the original brackets. And you will need a drill..I did..but it was fairly simple. If you have basic know how. You can line up the plates..that come with your cd player. And drill the holes..where you need to. It is a pain to do it..the way I did. But it was worth it to me. And I am sure it will be worth it to you. After you are done...your stereo will look professionally installed. And also will be nice and tight. If you need more insight on this. Let me know..and I can guide and help you some more.. Good luck man..

With the quality of the original wiring that came in these cars from the factory and the fact that they are now over 25 years old, I strongly recommend running new power and speaker wires.
Think about it, there are only a few wires that make any difference with an aftermarket stereo install:
1. Antenna signal wire
2. Antenna Power
3. Constant Power
4. Ground
5. Accessory/Ignition power
6. 2 wires per speaker or better yet, one set of low level outputs to an amp mounted in one of the boxes behind the seats.
Run new 12 or 14 gauge constant power and ground wires to the battery and new speaker wires and you'll be good to go and have a reliable setup out of it and you don't have to worry about setting your car on fire from overheating and shorting the crappy original factory wiring...

i did it when i was 15 so you should be able to...
wireing is easy with one of them volt meters just remember black is ground and dont forget to mount it down, for some reason my cig lightre was a bish to me, wire the cig lighter up right, headunit wouldnt work, wired it wrong, cig lighter got real hot and almost started a fire, but the HU worked..., biggest thing was
finding the power supply
grounds, antenna power(i decided not to cause the motors burnt out)
pulling on the antenna wire to get enough slack
oh and find the iggnition wire, just turn the key same as power supply
wiring is pretty much like any other car but without a digram and wire conversions
i used some thin plywood and pleather and did all kinds of mods to the stock holder adding all kinds of braces, took me like 3 weeks and ALOT of patience!

Hey guys...I normally don't say too much about your comments. But please cut the kid some slack. He is new...and is so heavy into his car. That he wants to contribute and try to help other people. And he also is trying to learn what he can. And gain useful knowledge. And I think what he posted here..is useful for this thread. I don't mean to start anything by this post. I just wanted to say how I felt about the treatment. Okay that is all I wanted to say. Thank you.
