Hey all,

I'm replacing the rear speakers w/ 6.5 inch speakers and throwing in a panasonic head unit and 2 12 inch subs. Will I have any problems with using the factory speaker wires with an aftermarket stereo (will they burst into flames and kill me)?

 

280ZX factory stereo's used a common ground on the speakers. To wire up a new aftermarket stereo, you'll need to rewire all of the speakers to match the diagram in the owners manual for the stereo, or the diagram that's usually posted on the stereo itself or you'll most likely short out and kill the new stereo.

 

Run new wire... takes 10 minutes and a few extra bucks for much better sound quality.

If you decide to replace factory, my stock 280zx radio will be for sale in a couple weeks. I dont know how much they're worth but I'd let it go for $25-$30.

damn if i knew stock radios were in demand i woulda said i got mine still and it supposedly worked before it was removed.

oh well, its just a am fm with the antenna switch, no 8-track for me.

 

8 track..... ny stock had a tape deck from my 82 zx parts car. im trying to ditch the bitch. works fine.

 

I recently installed an in dash DVD/CD/MP3/WMA player in my 280ZX..Ive installed many radios over the years and I must say the 280ZX radio install was the biggest pain..Between the funky colored wires and custom making the new faceplate it was quite a challenge..I ran all new wires and installed a barage of aftermarket gauges in the process..They are all functional..

mitsu mark, your a genious! lol. thats the first non retard retro interior ive seen on a zx. i HATE the zx wheel, and dash lay-out in general, but you made it work. really well might i add.

one thing i have never figured out is why there are 2 horn buttons but the pad in the center works for the horn to.
