Anyone long hauled? Pittsburgh to florida keys?
Wife just got back from her trip just to discuss vacation plans. She decided to take us down the florida keys. Its her idea to take our t top since her vette has 0 baggage room and well our subarus are a lil boreing..... now its around 1500 miles one way. . . . There is me 205 lbs my wife 110lbs and two weeks of clothing each so say around 500 lbs tottal has anyone long hauled in a z? No probs she's holding her fluids nicely slight oil leak but not bad. . . .there is 126 on the body and about 80 on the motor. . . . However I'm feeling a little worried lot of mountians to go through on the way down then the florida heat. . . . Should I beef up the oil to pennsoil 10w40 ? I'm used to 10w30 now speed I'm planning on hitting I 95 in virginia and rideing her down 75-80 mph for um 15 hours non stop for other than gas. Or should I take a slower back road kinda way . . . . She's never had a marathon like this before. . . But am tempted at 2 sunny weeks tops out driveing ocean side maybe I should act my age and just take the outback? Lol

Oh and the lil cooling fan for the intake is long gone. . . . . However when do these cars thermo lock? Figure it would be after I stop to fill up? My plan is to remove the thermostat. . . . Go with 10w40. . . And throw 2 spare half shafts behind the seat. And pray pray pray

I ran from bc Canada down to msa 2007 following bleach. It was a 5000 km round trip. Brought a spare tire and tools and didn't use a single thing. I drove for 16 hours straight from Anaheim to Medford Oregon at 130kph. Only stop was every 600km for gas pee and snacks.

oh yea you should be fine, i drove my 2+2 with well over 500 pounds of stuff about 700 miles in one day. I wouldn't take the thermostat out if I were you, if you take that out, the water could rush through the radiator too fast at higher engine RPMs and it may not cool down in time causing the already hot water to heat up even more and overheat your engine.

10W30 is fine. The car will basically be the same temperature at 15 hours as it will at 15 minutes as long as your cooling system is working properly.

Well the cooling system is all new from the engine swap this past winter. . . . Kinda glad everyone posted. The 86 vette would be a for sure bet how ever being the convt you may fit a shoe box and a glove in the trunk lol. I feel like a general leading his troops into battle preping the z but its our 10 yr anv and well tops off gents
