Assuming I have a bad ignition module....
I replaced the afm, and have an ignition module on the way...car engine shuts down sometimes while driving...if my ignition module is bad, will it hurt anything if I drive the vehicle 100 miles or so to visit my brother? I want to show him the car but do not want to end up stranded....

Details: car runs pretty well overall, however it will shutdown while idling at an intersection and sometimes while I'm doing 40+ mph. You can turn the key off and back on and it fires right up (it is an automatic)...when it shuts down at intersection it will usually start right back up.

Right. Did you check all your vacuum lines? It's probably just as easy to replace them anyhow since they are almost 30 years old. Did you do the rebuild on the AFM? It's super easy to do.
I just replaced the ignition transistor on my turbo with an HEI module and it gives a nice hot spark. The HEI module gets pretty hot so you need to heat sink it properly

Yes! Replaced the ignition module today and it runs like a top! This weekend, I'm also going to replace the vacuum lines and take your advice and clean up the AFM. thanks for the advice. Love this car, but don't know a whole lot about them.
