Auto to 5 speed
I don't know if there is already a thread about this, if there is can someone link it to me?
I want to know what I would need to swap my auto tranny to a 5 speed.
I know the tranny, clutch, shifter, and pedal. But I honestly don't know what else. First time swapping the tranny out.
Its a 79 280zx btw.
Thanks in advance

Theres a little button in the center of this page at the link bar commonly referred to as the "search button" if that little button can't help you, then go to google.com and try there. If all of that doesnt help, sell your car, buy a honda and forget you ever bought a nissan.

Besides 5-speed, clutch kit, clutch pedal
Clutch master cylinder
hard line from clutch master to slave that mounts to the firewall
clutch slave cylinder
clutch slave hose
throwout bearing (if not included with your new clutch kit)
A flywheel from a manual transmission Z (remove ring gear off the back of the engine that your automatic is on)
for the clutch pedal, you can just remove the clutch and brake pedal assembly as a unit off of the car. It will bolt up as it is in your car once you remove the bracket with your extra big brake pedal.
A 5-speed swap is not that big of a deal. If you find a parts car then its pretty cheap too.
You may want to buy a new master and slave cylinder, hose, and complete clutch kit. The transmission, pedals, hard line, and flywheel can all be used. (have a shop resurface the flywheel for a few bucks)

you also need the console cover for a 5 speed unless looks don't bother you and having a big honking hole there is OK. taking out the cage with the pedals and all is only six bolts but you have to wiggle and cuss to get it out. you will swear it is impossible and then you get just the right angle and out it jumps. but you can practice on the one that is there now. You may have to jump out some starter interlocks. Don't know what year our lovely government started deciding that people were too stupid to know if the car was in gear or not.
