Ball fell out of transmission

A small metal ball fell out of my tranny when I changed the gear oil. A bearing I guess. The transmission still seems to function perfectly -- what might it have been?

Thanks for any info.

Sounds like a ball bearing to me.

Sooo, think one missing bearing will kill the transmission anytime soon? How many bearings are in each gear?

The bearings have retainers... so one ball bearing isn't going to stop you. The tranny will make lots of noise when it's going out.

Look at pages 157-159 in your Haynes manual.

Thanks -- the really annoying noise in the rear has gone now.

usually the loss of a ball means the retainer is going, happened to mine the main bearing failed lost only half the ***** but thats enough to let the shaft that was in it woble and knock around
