I'd get new pins and a different block. Save some cash on the sleeves and have another block hot tanked and prepped.

Except I already have about $2k into that block in previous machine work...

Ouch, what's another 1/2k then right? How long will they have it this time, did they say? Did you ask them why they didn't catch that the first time? I assume they dissasembled the entire engine to machine it and they didn't notice the wobbly pistons. Shame on them! That should have been one of their standard checks.

Long story short, my motor was built by a Nissan master mechanic buddy of mine about 5 years ago. All the machine work was done by a diff local shop (which luck would have... went out of business not too long after). This machine shop I go to now is well known & appraised.

Well 5 bills to cut and sleeve the block isn't too bad. Where were the pins loose, in the pistons or in the rods? I would think that the slop would have damaged one or the other. I'd ask them to double check all of the tolerances twice. It would really suck if they re-assembled the motor and the same problem occurred due to out of tolerance fit. I get scared when people I don't know do things to my car. Especially when I can't be there to see what they're doing. Rots 'o ruck!!!

Haha dude that was the same goal I had for my Z. I'm pretty sure once it's running again that I'll be in the 13's, but I'll never know since the closest 1/4 mile track is 2 1/2 hours away, and it's not worth the drive. Either way, hopefully I don't jump on the bandwagon and sell too... I've really been leaning towards picking up a boring commuter car to save gas/money for a while and get back to Z cars later. I can definitely duplicate my setup for a lot less the next time around now that the learning curve is done.

And some guys on here give me crap for driving a '99 Honda Civic with 150k miles that still gets around 34mpg! Now that gas is $4.79/gal here in the Bay, I'm finally getting some respect!

And the block is back from the machine shop. New bearings, rings, seals, cyl 5 & 6 are sleeved, pistons knurled back into shape, new piston pins, short block re-assembled. This weekend I will re-assemble the long block.

Just go back in time and get a late 80s early 90s CRX HF. They get 50-52 highway miles. Looking at this progress of Nismo's engine makes me want to pull mine get it bored out and rebuilt. Nismo's back in the game!

Nah, but the Civic Hybrid got 42/51. The "regular" civic still got 32/38.

Lazy Saturday...

Against Snw's will I painted the block red again. I also replaced that huge coolant plug w/ a shorter ss hex stud.
