blown head gasket?

So you know I sold my car. I got a call from the guy who bought it and he thinks it has a blown head gasket or a cracked head. He says after they start it, it blows black smoke and after a minute or two it changes to white. He also says that the engine block as a bad piston or bad valve seals. His dad thinks that there is oil coming out of the #3 & #5 sparkplugs. the others are barely wet and the #6 is dry as a bone. I know the engine was rebuilt so what could be the cause? And no it never did overheat.

I'm trying to help the guy out plus I don't want the car back or to give them their money back. But I also don't want to be a guy that sold the a lemon...

Any help would be much appreciated.

a compression check is in order. Also, if the oil and coolant are mixing (aka chocolate milk, that's a tell tale sign of a BHG). HAve him check these things, then get back to us.

dont help thi guy out, no matter what it seems that the car will always end up back in your possesion, i hope you put "sold as is" on the bill. this gets you out of any legal obligation to buy the car back. now if he will sell it to you for 100 bucks, then well...... you can always blam him for the damage due to the fact he may have over reved it.

I have the same problem. smoke changes as the car warms up. I have More then stock comp. I am aimed towards Valve Seals for the oil. I am just going to put all new seals. and guides in my head. and put in a new head gasket for good measures.

Seals. If you can find them. are not much. Guides are like 5$ a valve. Black Drag has seals for 240-280ZX 70-83 for 2.95 a valve.

Did he inspect the car at your house before he bought it? Started it up cold?

Buyer beware, the car is his. You can offer advice but he better not be suggesting that you take the car back. Like was said, whos to say he didn't overheat it or drive that car hard on his way home?

We did sign an agreement but i forgot to put sold as is.. lol was watching tv one of those court shows and a judge said that "sold as is" no longer applies. I told Him that I would help him out with getting it fixed cause i have to work on a Z!!!! lol

"sold as is" no longer applies to what? I think you might have taken that out of context....

you accepted payments!?!? YOU'RE screwed now...

anything sold without a written warranty is sold as-is. Selling a used car for payments is not a good idea. If the guy buying a cheap used car can't get the cash or his own loan then how do you trust him to pay you?

When someone asks me if they can make payments (even had them ask that on a $300 truck) I tell them to save their money each month and come back when they have the full amount.

yeah i know... I just had to get rid of the car or where i live was going to tow it to a junk yard cause it had been sitting for sooooo long. Hell if worse comes to worse I'll just take it back and sell it as a parts car.

hopefully this is a learning lesson but maybe things will still go smoothly. Don't assume they are asking for money back if they dont' say it, and certainly don't offer any kind of free help to fix it or money back. Stand your ground. Only offer free advice on how they can fix it.

yeah they have no knowledge so thats what i'm helping him with. My new car pics should be arriving by saterday I hope. They have not done a comp test yet so i'll show them how to do that. My guess is that they are seeing things that are not there. lol and he got a good rare car, heck even if the head is bad the car is rust free and you can't beet that for 800 plus the nice interior..

dont you just hate retard buyers... the guy that got my 300 saw it one day bought it the same night.. called me a bit... "ummm... what would i need to make the car quieter that exhaust" im like... you need the stock cat-back section... i also have shiney no midpipe testpipes that contributes to loudness and you cant pass emmisions with them... calls me later mumbled stuff about a valve and injector 6 dead, yeah not on my watch anyways and that he failed emissions.. im like... dude.. its almost 6 months later lol... replace the test pipes... plus, IL jsut passed a law that OBDI doesnt go for emissions so just find out. never heard from him since then... hahah..... oh well

Yeah When He Called Me About The Car I Did Not Expect Him To Come Over 10 Minuets Later And Then Drive It Away That Night... Geeze Talk About A Fast Sale... Next Time I'm Getting The Cash Up Front. That Way They Have The Tittle And I Am No Longer Responsable. I'd Still Help Him If He Had Questions Though.

the really bad part is you don't have all the money yet. You may never see another dollar from that guy again...

Tell him you'll be happy to answer all their questions after they pay you for the car. Don't dick around with them or you will get screwed. If you still have the title I would just call off the sale. Give them back whatever money they have given you already and take the car back. Sounds to me like any other way you go about it with them is going to end up with you holding the bag.

Rod.
