Help me out a bit here...How long are you driving it? 10 minutes, 30 minutes, 10 hours, how long are you driving with your a/c on?

2. How hot is it in your area? 10 below, 100 above, 72?

3. How high is the humidity...Medium....Unbearable, so dry the trees are begging for a dog to come by?

These come into play. There's pressure switches within the system, to regulate the pressures on each side of your hoses...The high pressure side, and the low pressure switch which will come on when you're low on freon..

These switches are in place to shut off the compressor, should one side or the other be out of whack.

Ok, you just had your a/c serviced...Did you do it, or a REAL A/C shop that knows what they're doing? Just because the sight glass may have been showing bubbles, and more freon was added because the bubbles mean you're low, doesn't necessarly mean the two pressures, High and low gauges are where they should be.

There's a thermostatic switch, who's function it is to cycle on and off.....Usually when a A/C does cycle on and off a lot, then that means the two gauges are going to fluctuate back and forth a lot....

So, if you've experienced via your prior experiences that the clutches seemed to cycle on and off a lot, may have meant the thermostatic switch on those were on their way out.

As long as there is a big the temp difference between between the evaporator, and the condenser. Then the compressor is doing it's job.

The job of the fan blower is to blow air across the evaporator. There is a temp sensitive, Expansion valve, that regulates how much freon passes thru the line....

So if it's hot inside your car, or you're running your fan on low all the time, then one side is going to be hotter than the other....and the compressor is running all the time.

Clear as mud?

Ay oh! Another Utahn! Welcome!

If it's cold, and the pressures are where they should be... then it's working properly. Like Old Codger said, systems should not cycle on and off... that's a sign of too low or high pressure. Some newer auto climate control systems will turn off the compressor when the preset cabin temp is met.

Time to kick back and enjoy the cold air.
