What is the label # on the other ECU,from the picture you have(missing Pins) A11-601 000

A11-000 050
1975 M/T Calif

A11-600 000 is for:

1975 A/T Calif,
1976 M/T & A/T Fed & Calif,
1977 M/T Fed & Calif,
1978 M/T Fed & Calif,

A11-601 000 is for:

1977 A/T Fed & Calif,
1978 A/T Fed & Calif,

Do you know if a '83 harness would work for these A11 600 000?

thanks for the help! this z rebuild is killer!

There are enough changes between those years that it wouldn't run properly. Save yourself all the headaches now and get an 82-83 ecu for your 83 harness.

thanks Nismo always a trustworthy opinion. I have a 83, unfortantly i have to change everything to a '77 now because thats what my engine runs

So let me make sure I understand...
You have a 77 engine
You have a 77 ecu
You have an 83 engine harness

You don't have an 77 engine harness?
You don't have an 83 ecu?

You don't have an 83 intake or exhaust manifold?

Just trying to figure out what you are doing...

^^Yes to all - '77 n42 bottom and top block

You don't have an 77 engine harness? Looking to buy
You don't have an 83 ecu? I have one but everything installed is making me convert to '77 :/

You don't have an 83 intake or exhaust manifold? Yes i do, thats what i am running off from

Long story short all engine parts are for '83. But recently installed a '77 n42 hoping that it would work with '83 parts and so far no luck. So i just bought a '77 ecu becuase i hear the firing order is different then a '83 ecu.

slowly, but surely..

This is getting more and more confusing...

How are all parts from an 83 if you are running an entire 77 N42 engine? Why aren't you just using the 83 intake and exhaust manfolds and N42 thermostat housing? Please be clear on what you are doing...

And the firing order is the same from 70-83. I think you are over-complicating things WAY too much.

Honestly, my friend is my master tech and he is use to working on P79 heads. He totally whiffed on this engine rebuild. so i had to do research myself. My engine started idling, but it shuts off when i gas it and i can hear it misfiring after the engine warms up for about 5-10 mins. I just kept reading on found the picture below.

It was a whole complete engine rebuild.

N42 bottom/top '77
dizzy '83
AFM '83
intake + exhaust manifold '83
ecu + harness '83
fuel line '83

I am not sure what model my thermostat housing is, but knows it runs with a '83 p79 head.

We were hoping the n42 would just start up after throwing it in with everything else being '83 parts, but it just wont run run properly.

So do you have a CHTS / Coolant temp sensor hooked up?

I'm assuming not since the N42 doesn't have a CHTS port, and you are using the P79 thermostat housing.
