charcol canister

DONT plug the line going to the tank. Put a breather filter on it or something like that. Another consideration of not using the canister is that pressure tends to build up in the tank even when you leave the line open. The vacuum of the engine helps to depressurize the fuel tank. But all in all, NO, you dont need the canister. The only thing I'd be concerned about would be the fuel odor from the vapors venting.
I should also point out that you can find a canister off of some of the smaller import cars who's canister is only a fraction of the size of the Z's canister. I'm planning on keeping a canister, but going with a smaller one and tucking it down in the fender.

Not neccessarily. See then the vapor would have full time access to your intake manifold. Which may not be a good thing. That vapor could build up in the intake and lead to problems. I think the best option is to leave the canister and just relocate it somewhere. Like I said you can find smaller ones to cut down on weight and space a little bit. I've thought about removing mine altogether but if I stick in the fender well then it's really not in the way and it's benefits will out weigh it's cons. It's one of those better safe than sorry sort of things. Like the PCV valve. Do you need it? No. But it's still better to have it in there then to remove it and just run a breather filter.

Supposedly the pressure from the vapors will build in the tank if you do it that way. I guess how often you open your gas cap for fuel will dictate whether the pressure builds up high enough to get dangerous. Another thing is that you want some sort of vent to the gas tank so that the fuel being pumped out can be displaced with air from the vent. Our caps aren't designed to vent pressure. They're a solid type.

oh yeah.. hahah.. well I usually filled up once a week but I remember one time I was unscrewing and there was so much pressure it popped the cap off on the last thread and broke the LCD on the pump.. funniest **** that ever happened..

Even With A Charcoal Canister, My Cap Has Gone Flying Off Too, Maybee Its Not Working!! Every Time I Take The Cap Off It Goes Hissssss, And Pushes Its Way Off On The Last Thread. Also that could be why i smell fuel occasioally.

You know i was going to ask about that. Recently i noticed a stain right under the gas cap. I thought i might be from water deposits from when it rains or something. Could it be that pressure is building up and gas is leaking out due to a faulty cap and leaving the stain? It doesnt wanna come off. Granted its only primer still but its buggin me.
