CHTS and water temp sensor question
are these the same part number? I got O'reilly's to send a CHTS down and they sent a coolant temp sensor. Can I use it, or is it a completely different sensor type? Thanks

totally different. the chts is a two wire sensor and the coolant temp is a one wire sensor. the confusion is caused by nissan using the same name for both in some cases. the early cars had the coolant temp and the chts located close together and they both measured coolant temp but the true chts back by #5 cylinder actually contacts the block giving a truer reading.

The reason I ask is they sent me this: http://www.carpartsdiscount.com/auto...ml?3593=303113
and this is what came out of it: http://www.zcarsource.com/cylinder-h...861_52870.html
they look very similar, but then again, they look different...if that makes sense?!
I was having an intermittent problem with my fuel delivery. Sometimes it was running fine and then sometimes it would run way too rich and not even idle right. When it ran fine I pulled wiring harness plugs until it gave me the same symptoms as it did when it ran like crap. The problem was the CHTS. So, I had O'Reilly's send one down, but the first link is what they sent me. I replaced it and the plug at the same time, but It still ran like crap and never did plane out, so now I'm wondering if the difference in the two are big enough for it not to be right.
So, there is the background on why I'm so inquisitive of the part. Thanks in advance for some answers!

NO. one is a two wire plug similar to the fuel injector plug and the temp is just a round push on. you didn't see fit to publish the year car you are talking about. helps to know those things.if the sensor oreilly sent you has two pins then it is the chts or in early cars up by the coolant sensor. if it has one pin then it is the coolant seensor. ecu needs toknow either miliamps or voltage drop to get a reading. the temp gage just measures the current flow (basically an ammeter)

The temp sensor for your temp gauge has a single wire connector - the body itself is grounded to the engine completing the circuit. The temp gauge sensor is less accurate than the CHTS. The CHTS uses an EV1 plug - the same as all the injectors, cold start injector and the Thermo Timer switch which is also located on the thermostat housing.
